In a statement, House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez mourned the death of Barzaga Jr., who he considered a great lost to the lower chamber.
For Romualdez, the Cavite lawmaker was a "great legal thinker and a smart number-cruncher."
“I myself consulted him on a number of legal issues. He was always lending a helping hand. We will also remember him as an indefatigable lawmaker who made it a point to attend sessions and participate actively in committee hearings with extensive preparations,” he shared.
The House Speaker extended his prayers and thoughts to Barzaga Jr.'s bereaved family and constituents.
The Cavite lawmaker's passing was confirmed by his wife, Dasmariñas City Mayor Jenny Austria-Barzaga in an official Facebook post on Saturday, April 27.
Austria-Barzaga said her husband died in California, United States at the age of 74.
Barzaga's cause of death, however, was not disclosed.
"As we mourn his loss, we find solace in the countless lives he touched and the enduring impact of his work. We humbly ask for your prayers and support during this difficult time," she said.
